Department of Tactics of the Air Defence Forces of the Land Forces

The Department of Tactics of the Air Defence Forces of the Land Forces is a basic structural subdivision of the Faculty of Air Defence of the Land Forces, which carries out educational activities within the following specialisations:
command and control of air defence units of the Land Forces;
complexes and systems of anti-aircraft weapons of the Land Forces.
The department coordinates the activities of all departments and subdivisions of the faculty in conducting professional military training at the L-1C tactical level command courses, advanced training courses for the headquarters of the Air Defence Divisions of the Land Forces and other advanced training courses.
The mission of the department is to train tactical-level commanders based on national combat experience and best practices of NATO member states.
The department consists of:
- Department management
- research and teaching staff
- a classroom
- training command post.

The academic staff of the Department has practical experience of military service in command positions at the tactical and operational level, from platoon to the Command of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
All the military personnel of the department have combat experience gained during direct participation in repelling aggression against Ukraine.
Three servicemen of the department have been awarded state awards of Ukraine and nine servicemen have been awarded by the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
MAIN TASKS OF THE DEPARTMENT
implementation of educational activities that provide:
obtaining of the appropriate higher education degree (bachelor’s, master’s) by students in their chosen specialisations;
creation of conditions for improvement of knowledge, skills and professional growth of the staff;
summarising and disseminating best practices in the daily activities of troops (forces) in their mobilisation and combat training, and in their combat operations in repelling the large-scale armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine;

organising and conducting scientific work of students, military scientific society (scientific club);
organisation of practices and internships in accordance with the established procedure;
organisation and conduct of moral and psychological support measures;
conducting career guidance work;
social support for participants in the educational process;
control over the observance of academic integrity by participants in the educational process.

In order to provide quality educational services, the department has deployed a modern command post with the latest software:
JCATS (Joint Conflict and Tactical Simulation) simulation system, which allows simulating combat operations, logistics, interaction of units, etc. in a virtual environment;
the IVOP system of adaptive training for the visual observation post scout, which allows for air reconnaissance in a virtual environment, detection and recognition of air targets of various types and characteristics;
the information and communication system ‘Delta Integration Platform’ of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which is currently a universal platform for tactical awareness of the commander.
The practical skills of cadets and course participants are honed during tactical exercises on the ground, including at designated training grounds. The purpose of these exercises is to develop the skills of a tactical-level commander to command a unit in various types of combat in the face of enemy use of precision weapons, artillery and electronic warfare.
